There is an EXTREME HEAT WARNING in effect for New Jersey through today as feel like temperatures approach 110 degrees.
An AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect for the northeastern counties for reduced air quality due to the heat and humidity.
FORECAST:
Extreme heat and humidity continue today across New Jersey with high temperatures predicted to reach 103 degrees, which would then make today the hottest day in 4 years, since June 30, 2021.
The UV Index reaches level 10, which is dangerous for sunburn and skin damage.
Dark pavement and sand will be incredibly hot to touch, so please protect your pets. It is best to keep them indoors.
The feel like temperature reaches 107-110 degrees today, so sweating is ineffective at keeping your body cool.
Better temperatures are on the way for later this week. Highs reach the mid-90s tomorrow and then the 80s and 70s for the following days. There will be more clouds tomorrow with a round of thunderstorms or two. These storms are not widespread, but you will likely see the lightning in the distance in the evening. (Heat lightning is a myth, it's just a distant thunderstorm).
Partly sunny conditions arrive for Thursday, allowing for the air to feel much better with highs in the mid-80s. There will be a few scattered thunderstorms again.
