The woman killed over the weekend when a tree fell on her car in Colts Neck was the head of New Jersey's Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Stacy Weathers is remembered as a woman who devoted herself to cancer patients and research.
Weathers was traveling on Route 34 in Colts Neck Saturday when a tree fell and landed on her car. Investigators say strong winds may be to blame. The tree also knocked down power lines in the area.
Those who worked for Weathers at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society say that she was much more than a boss, and that her knack for personal connections made her good at her job.
"We celebrated engagements and weddings and baby showers and every accomplishment and every struggle that everyone had," says Deputy Executive Director Gina Murdoch.
Employees say that Weathers was pivotal in raising $7 million through the organization to support patients and fund cancer research.
"She mourned when people passed, when other people succumbed to the blood cancers. She delighted in them going into remission and living forward. It was very, very personal to her," says Murdoch.
The staff at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society says that they are working on awards and fundraisers in Weathers' name. She is survived by her husband and daughter.
