Seven months after the cleanup first began, the Environmental Protection Agency says a Clifton chemical facility is finally free of hazardous materials.
Abrachem Group chemical company was accused of improperly storing large amounts of dangerous chemicals at the Clifton location. The cleanup was prompted by a court order. The EPA stepped in and cleaned up the chemicals, some of which leaked out of the containers.
According to the EPA, the chemicals posed serious risks to the community and environment. Some New Jersey lawmakers are calling for Abrachem to pay for the cost of the cleanup.
