More than $250,000 is heading to the Hackensack Fire Department via a federal grant.
The money will be used for state-of-the-art swift water and boat training to help Hackensack firefighters respond to and rescue people during flooding emergencies.
“Anyone who works and lives in Hackensack knows how prone we are to flooding, especially in our low-lying areas. Flooding conditions have caused fire department responses to hundreds of vehicles stuck in rising flood waters and residents trapped in their homes. Additionally, the fire department is often called to the Hackensack River to assist recreationalists stuck or in distress,” said Hackensack Fire Department Chief Anthony Riehl.
President Joe Biden last week signed the Fire Grants Safety Act which reauthorizes the AFG and SAFER programs for another five years.
