A New Jersey program that pairs mental health professionals with police officers answering calls is showing promising results.
The Brookings Institution looked at data from 342 police calls. It found that 97% of cases did not use force. It also found that 98% of calls did not result in an arrest.
The institution says the Arrive Together program has the potential to improve police-community relations and expand into neighboring states.
