A group that includes New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is joining a mission to reduce gun violence.
More than three dozen scholars and six governors are becoming part of "The States for Gun Safety."
Murphy joins the governors of New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Delaware and Puerto Rico for the mission.
They say scholars will do research to give lawmakers and the public new information about how to fight gun violence.
Murphy says, "Despite having some of the toughest gun laws in the nation, New Jersey has suffered from roughly 80 percent of our gun crimes being committed with a gun trafficked across our borders."
