Gov. Phil Murphy and his administration honored veterans during a ceremony in Trenton Sunday morning for Veterans Day.

A poem written for the casualties of World War I was read at the Trenton War Memorial, where a plaque memorializes service members from New Jersey killed in the ongoing war against global terrorism.

"To all the members of our armed services, past, present, and perhaps future with us today, let me also begin with a humble and deeply heartfelt thank you," says Gov. Murphy.

Luddie Austin, a retired Trenton police officer who attended the ceremony, says he followed up his time serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq with helping veterans at home.

World War II veterans say memories of their service stay with them forever.

There are no veterans alive today from World War I.

New Jersey is home to over 430,000 veterans.
