Gov.-elect Phil Murphy met with Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosello Friday to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Maria.
Murphy attended a FEMA briefing, met with Rosello’s staff about dealing with the aftermath and also met with displaced Puerto Rican citizens.
Murphy posted photos of the trip on Twitter and tweeted, “Puerto Ricans are our fellow Americans, and we must commit to helping them rebuild over rhea long term. #NJinPR.”
Gov. Rosello praised Murphy for visiting.
“The 400,000 Puerto Ricans who live in New Jersey were excited for this result, and governor, we are happy to have you here. It’s an honor, a privilege and we’re excited to see you take off,” Rosello said.
The governor-elect was accompanied by his wife and 21 New Jersey leaders with ties to Puerto Rico.
Murphy takes office Jan. 16.
