Governor Jon Corzine is now breathing without the aid of a ventilator
Doctors removed the ventilator Friday. Corzine had been on the breathing tube since he was critically injured in an April 12 high-speed crash.
Corzine has been listed in critical but stable condition since being brought to Cooper University Hospital last week. It is unclear when he will be able to resume his official duties. Doctors say it could take six months before he is able to walk without a cane or walker.
Since the crash on the Garden State Parkway, state Senate President Richard Codey has been serving as acting governor.
