A North Bergen woman, who could have frozen to death as a result of a cruel prank, is doing OK thanks to a Good Samaritan.
David Laske, of Nyack, N.Y., picked up the unidentified 19-year-old woman on the side of the road after her friends allegedly dumped her in the woods off Route 9W near the New York-New Jersey border.Laske saw her around 11 p.m. on Jan. 16, and brought her to the hospital.
"She was barefoot and wearing very little clothing. And it was very cold," Laske says. "I stopped, so she ran in front of the car and ran up to the passenger side and asked if I could help her."
Police have arrested three people in connection with the case. Amber Crespo, of North Bergen, Maria Contreras-Luciano, of Dumont, and Dyanne Velasquez, of North Bergen, were all charged with kidnapping.
Police say it began at Crespo's home on Bergenwood Avenue. The victim told police that Crespo invited her to a party, along with two other friends. But when the victim arrived, she got in their car, and they drove her to the woods, police say.
The three suspects are free on $200,000 bail.
According to police, the victim was involved in a legal dispute with her friends, stemming from a car accident, and that the kidnapping was an act of revenge.
