A 50-year-old man is facing murder charges following a horrific scene in which a woman was found fatally stabbed inside a smoke-filled bedroom.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of Jerome Morris in connection with the death of his spouse, 51-year-old Monica Morris.

At approximately 2:25 a.m. on April 28, 2026, Gloucester Township police officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the 100 block of Freedom Way.

Upon entering the home, officers encountered Jerome Morris, who was reportedly holding a knife and covered in blood. He was immediately taken into custody. As officers moved further into the residence, they discovered a fire had been set. The victim, Monica Morris, was located in a third-floor bedroom amid heavy fire and smoke conditions.

Multiple fire departments responded to extinguish the flames. Firefighters were able to remove Monica Morris from the home, but she was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m.

Two other adults living in the home were able to escape the fire unharmed. The incident also resulted in injuries to three Gloucester Township police officers, who sustained minor injuries while inside the residence. One officer required hospital treatment but has since been released, while the others were treated at the scene.

Jerome Morris is currently charged with first-degree murder and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The cause of the fire is being investigated, and authorities noted that additional charges related to arson may be filed depending on the outcome of that investigation.

Jerome Morris was transported to a hospital before being remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
