Rutgers University announced back in January it hired Sean Gleeson as the football team's new offensive coordinator. The Glen Ridge native had spent last year coaching at Oklahoma State.
Gleeson is ready to prove it in his new role as team offensive coordinator, and has plenty of experience to back it up. Gleeson spent six seasons at Princeton working his way up from running back coach to offensive coordinator, and helping the Tigers to three Ivy League championships. Then in 2019, he was hired to run the offense at Oklahoma State.
"We'll have some things in the offense that schematically were a part of what they did, but like I said, every year is a new year and you have to figure out your personnel so whether it was from Princeton or things from Oklahoma State if they are a bad match for our personnel, we're not going to do it," says Gleeson.
Gleeson says he'll implement a no-huddle offense at Rutgers that will be fast and physical.
"You'll see an aggressiveness in that way that our guys line up and address the next snap that should be different, should be something that's like, ‘wow these guys are going at a pretty good clip, we want to snap the ball around every 15 seconds,’" says Gleeson.
While spring practices have been virtual, Gleeson says he's excited about the staff Head Coach Greg Schiano has assembled, and what it'll be able to accomplish.
"The simple question would I let my sons be coached by this guy and I think we've hit a home run in every category," says Gleeson.

If the college football season starts as scheduled, Rutgers will host Monmouth in the season-opener Sept. 5.
