The Covenant House in Newark had a special guest Thursday night to help the fight against homelessness.
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley slept outside for "Covenant House New Jersey's Sleep Out: Executive Edition," a fundraiser to keep the lights on and the doors open for kids in need. People from all over the state took part in solidarity with youth overcoming homelessness.
"What I'm most proud about is there's people out there that actually care," said Barkley. "Not everyone's fortunate enough, and, you know, I think people will understand that. Hopefully we can get the world to understand that a little bit more."
In America, 4.2 million kids will face homelessness this year, according to research from Chapin Hall at The University of Chicago.
Covenant House provides safe shelter for young people living on the streets, as well as education and job training.
