A fugitive wanted in connection with a fatal double shooting in Asbury Park last autumn has been captured in Pennsylvania and extradited back to New Jersey.

Jerod L. Jones, 32, of Neptune City, was arrested in Philadelphia by local police before being transferred back to New Jersey.

The arrest follows a multi-agency investigation into a shooting that took place on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Where Asbury Park police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of the 100 block of Monmouth Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, identified as 37-year-old Tyshan Small, was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The second victim was also hospitalized and received treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.

A joint investigation conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Asbury Park Police ultimately identified Jones as the suspect responsible for the homicide and the wounding of the second victim.

A Monmouth County Grand Jury subsequently returned an indictment charging Jones with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, unlawful possession of a handgun, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree certain persons not to possess a weapon.

Following his arrest and extradition from Pennsylvania, Jones was booked into the Monmouth County Correctional in Freehold, where he is currently being held pending his upcoming proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.
