A freight train derailment left a mess in Nutley Saturday afternoon.
The train, operated by Norfolk Southern, was making a run from the old Roche Pharmaceuticals campus when it derailed.
The rail company says some soil containing lead and PCBs was spilled.
Roche says no one was injured. The company's spokesperson did not know how the derailment occurred.
The spokesperson for Roche says clean-up efforts following the derailment could take the rest of the weekend.
Robert Newman, of Nutley, says the derailment was not a surprise.
"I honestly expected it," Newman told News 12 New Jersey. "This track is old. I've never seen anyone maintain it. I couldn't believe they were using it to begin with."
