More than a dozen former employees of the Circus Drive-In in Wall Township gathered Tuesday to take one last photo in front of the iconic restaurant.
The eatery’s owners closed it down indefinitely last season after they said that they could not compete with nearby fast food chains.
The Circus Drive-In operated for 60 years along Route 35. The employees say that they wanted a chance to say goodbye together.
“If there’s a miracle and I win the lottery, I’ll buy the land,” says former employee Samantha Kelly. “But I don’t know. I mean, I don’t have any hopes anymore. It’s kind of gone.”
The property manager says that the land is currently under contract and that a closing could happen within a few weeks.
There is no word on what may open in the restaurant’s place.
