A first-ever partnership between Newark Liberty International Airport, United Airlines and the United Arab Emirates launched Saturday night, making it possible to fly directly from New Jersey to Dubai for the first time since 2016.
The direct flight from Newark to Dubai, a 14-hour, 7,000-mile-long voyage, departed on Saturday night.
Many flyers at the airport were excited that for the first time since 2016, they can travel to Dubai from New Jersey without having to go to an out-of-state airport. Up until then, the airline operated a route between Washington and Dubai.
"Doesn't matter if you're going to Africa, Asia, Middle East, Europe -- non-stop right here from Newark," said United Airlines Vice President of Airport Operations, Rodney Cox.
United Airlines was a proud group to be hosting this flight.
"Connecting people, uniting the world. United is the largest airline in the world," said United Airlines Executive Vice President and Chief Commerical Officer, Andrew Nocella.
"These are two leading brands: When we land in Dubai, across the globe, there will be endless flights wherever you need to go," Nocella said.
This news comes with another slew of updates, which include other international non-stop flights later this year to Nice, France, Barcelona and Norway.
