Firefighters snapped into action Saturday to respond to a manhole explosion on Walton Avenue.
Witnesses say they contacted police after seeing flames shoot out of the manhole. Fire officials say no one was hurt in the explosion.
Several buildings were left without power due to the blast. The explosion did severely damage a nearby car though.
Fire officials say their biggest challenge was rescuing residents trapped in elevators. Con Edison has since taken over handling the incident and firefighters are standing by as a precaution, according to FDNY Deputy Chief Kevin Butler.
"We have everything under control," says Butler.
