A firefighter is being called a hero after rescuing a person from a burning motel in Elmwood Park.
According to Police Chief Michael Foligno, the fire happened Wednesday morning at the Town House Motel on Route 46 east. Foligno says the fire appeared to have originated in a second-floor guest room.
The firefighter suffered a serious cut on the arm while pulling the guest through a second-floor window. She was transported to a local hospital for her injuries. Several other firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation. The guest was also transported with minor injuries.
“The firefighter that was injured put herself in harm’s way to rescue a hotel guest and for that she is a true hero!” Foligno told News 12.
Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Arson Unit and Elmwood Park Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
