Atlantic City Electric officials say that crews are slowly making progress restoring power to thousands of customers after a fire at one of the company’s substations.

The company says that 15,000 customers in the Wildwood area had their power restored overnight Friday into Saturday. There were about 24,000 customers out at the peak.

Atlantic City Electric says that repairs would continue into the weekend.

Most of the Wildwood and Wildwood Crest areas were without power for most of Friday. This included Morey's Pier. The waterpark and Wildwood boardwalk had no power or running water.

“We understand how disruptive this can be, we are working as quickly and safely as we can to restore service,” officials stated.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
