The federal government's annual bird kill is under way in New Jersey.
The bird kill is designed to thin flocks of geese in New Jersey by about 2,000 birds.
The geese will be captured and gassed in nine counties over the next six weeks. New Jersey is home to an estimated 80,000 Canada geese, twice the amount experts consider manageable.
Many consider the fowl to be pests, particularly due to their droppings.
"There's just too many of them," says Tom McCann, of Belmar, who calls geese at Lake Como a nuisance. "It needs to be done."
