Officials say 16 people were injured in an apartment fire in Bath Beach, including six firefighters.
Investigators say a fire broke out on the second floor of the seven-story building on 65 Bay 19th St. just before 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Footage shows windows completely shattered, hallways and walls charred and water flooding the main lobby.
A total of 106 emergency personnel were on scene battling the blaze.
Residents told News 12 the smoke was so think they couldn't exit the stairwells. Citizen App video shows people being evacuated by fire escape.
Fire officials confirmed seven residents suffered minor injuries.
According to Ace Management Company, three people, including two children and one adult, are now stable. Sources say they were found unconscious on the third floor.
Our crews went inside the building, witnessing the second- and third-floor completely destroyed.
Resident Ibrahim Ahmed told News 12 his apartment is directly above where the fire started. He said he lost everything.
Some residents are reporting the fire alarms didn't go off in the hallways.
Red Cross were on scene assisting displaced families.
According to the fire marshal, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
