A group of people were in for a great surprise while fishing off the coast of New Jersey.
Heading from the Seaview Marina in Longport to an offshore reef last Sunday, recreational fisher Jennifer Schreiber and her family came across an enormous school of bait fish about three miles off of Margate.
After dropping their lines, they spotted a great white shark.
"It was particularly amazing because he was really checking us out," Schreiber says. "He was as interested in us as we were in him."
The encounter was captured on video. The Massachusetts Shark Research Program confirmed it was a young great white.
Because it was the first time the shark had been spotted, the family got to name it. Schreiber's son picked out the name Carlos.
