Many families are gathering at the Camp Meeting Association?s tent colony in Ocean Grove to concentrate on the simple things in life.
Families gather each summer to live at the tent colony, which has been around for 130 years. The original colony, a group of Methodists, founded Ocean Grove in 1870. The Camp Meeting Association still owns the property. Families of different Christian faiths rent the tents, but the majority of renters are still Methodists.
Some of the tents have been in families for generations. For those who honor the tradition each summer, they say it?s a way to step back in time. The living quarters for many families are tight, but participants said that?s the point. Many use the summer weeks to focus on family, religion and the simple things in life.
