A Middletown couple got the scare of their lives Wednesday after a 90-foot oak tree uprooted and crashed through the roof of their home.
Cindy Minervini says the trunk struck the bedroom where she had been just a half-hour earlier.
“All of a sudden I hear ‘crack, boom,’ like an earthquake,” she told News 12. Minervini had been working from home at the time.
“Thank goodness I was just sitting at my table working, then I just ran out,” she said.
Cindy and her husband Mario stayed in a hotel Wednesday night. They returned to survey the damage this morning.
“It’s a lot worse than I thought it would be,” said Mario. “We’re all safe. That’s what matters.”
The couple is in touch with their insurance broker and a crew is expected to remove the tree later today.
