A fallen Plainfield firefighter was laid to rest on Saturday morning.
Authorities say Marques Hudson, 32, died on Jan. 26 after responding to a fire at a two-family home on Emerson Avenue.
Doctors spent more than an hour trying to revive him.
The father of three joined the Plainfield Fire Department in December of 2021. He is remembered for dedicating his life to the safety of his community.
Hudson is the first Plainfield firefighter to die while battling a fire. He is also the third firefighter in New Jersey to die in the line of duty in less than a year.
Many friends, family and community members gathered at Plainfield High School to pay their respects following his death.
“We just felt we had to come out to support since this has never happened in our city. We are so grateful for his service,” said Plainfield resident Sharina Briggs.
“Everyone loved the guy. He was a very nice guy,” said resident Evra Ald.
