A new trend has popped up where homeowners rent out their backyard pools to strangers at an hourly rate in the summer.
But experts say that this could end up costing homeowners if a renter gets injured. Homeowners insurance may not cover the injuries.
“Your insurance policy, more than anything else, is a legal document,” says I & E Insurance agent Ernie Caponegro. “You are changing the terms and conditions of your policy.”
It is actually against the law in many New Jersey towns to rent out a private pool. Homeowners who wish to rent out their pools should check with their town’s code enforcement and an insurance agent.
