Safety experts in the Bronx want residents to take precautions when installing televisions after a set fell on a toddler Friday.
The 1-year-old boy was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital and is listed in critical condition. Fire officials say the TV toppled over and fell on the boy's chest.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported that in the first seven months of 2006, 10 children died after televisions fell on them, twice the yearly average.
Experts say that taking certain safety precautions can help prevent tragic incidents. They suggest putting the TVs on stable furniture, pushing the sets as far back as possible on their stands, and removing items children might be tempted to climb.
