A dramatic police pursuit caught on surveillance video is sparking concern in Bushwick.
News 12 obtained exclusive surveillance video, showing a dark-colored sedan speeding along a sidewalk near Broadway and Myrtle Avenue, while being closely pursued by an NYPD vehicle.
The circumstances behind the pursuit remain unclear.
According to the timestamp in the surveillance video, it happened on Jan. 12 at 3:50 p.m.
Police have not confirmed the reason for the chase or the nature of the alleged crime that prompted it.
"It’s definitely shocking. I wish I had more context, but seeing something like that is incredible," one Brooklyn resident said. "You’d think there’d be more accountability. That’s the main thing.”
The pursuit occurred just days before NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced updates to the department’s pursuit guidelines.
Police have not confirmed whether this incident influenced the policy change.
The NYPD says it is investigating the incident.
