Authorities have charged a formerHasbrouck Heights police officer in the killing of a Wood-Ridge manfound dead on Sunday.
Scott Smith, 33, of Hasbrouck Heights, wasarrested today.
He faces murder and weapons possession charges for the death ofJohn Amendola, 39, of Wood-Ridge.
Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says the two men hadbeen friends for nearly 20 years and got into a dispute atAmendola's home early yesterday morning.
Smith allegedly stabbed Amendola several times with a knifethat prosecutors say Smith often carried.
Amendola's body was found yesterday afternoon by a friend whoarrived for a visit.
It's not yet clear if Smith has retained a lawyer.
Prosecutors say Smith, who is currently unemployed, is being held on $2 millionbail.
