Residents in a Hackensack apartment building woke up to fire alarms after an e‑scooter burst into flames.

Fire officials say the scooter was quickly unplugged and taken outside. The flames did not spread inside the building.

They say the scooter had been plugged into the wrong charger. Hazmat crews helped safely dispose of the charred lithium‑ion battery.
