Emergency officials in New York City, along with federal authorities and mobile telephone service providers, are testing the cellular emergency alert system today.
New York City officials say broadcasts over the cellular network may be received by enabled cell phones in New Jersey. Officials say they'll be sending six alerts every hour from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Cellular phone customers who have questions about the technology should contact their mobile phone service provider's customer service number. Customer service representatives have been informed of the new technology and are aware of the test.
