A parking garage in Elizabeth was closed off temporarily and inspected Wednesday morning to see if it was structurally sound.
Union County Manager Ed Oatman says they received a report of someone hearing an unusual noise at the parking garage on Elizabeth Plaza and Caldwell Place. He says the parking deck and surrounding streets were closed out an abundance of caution.
Oatman said a thorough assessment by engineers determined that the parking structure is "not in imminent danger."
All road closures were lifted by the afternoon.
Oatman also said they had budgeted for the demolition of the aging structure. A bid was received Tuesday and is currently under review by the county.
The parking deck has been closed to the public for almost two years and is in the process of emptying out in preparation for demolition. Oatman says since the parking garage poses no imminent danger, the county will proceed as planned with the process of demolition.
