Elementary school children joined in the inauguration celebrations Tuesday as students at Monument Elementary School in Mercer County watched live coverage and held their own indoor parade.
Teachers at Monument say the students have been waiting for the inauguration since President Barack Obama won the election in November. They designed their celebration to echo the real inauguration events, with a parade of pre-kindergarteners through second-graders marching through the school to sounds of ?Hail to the Chief? and a swearing-in ceremony for the safety patrol.
The students say they are excited and proud of President Obama.
"I'm glad Barack Obama is president," Michael Ferdick, a student, says.
The school also hosted an inaugural ball for the kids and played music that can be found on President Obama?s iPod.
