An 86-year-old woman died after being struck by a van while crossing a street in a marked crosswalk Thursday in Union, police said.

The crash occurred March 26 at the intersection of Vauxhall Road and Oakland Avenue, according to the Union Police Department.

A 2012 white Chevrolet Express van driven by a 49-year-old Hillside man was making a left turn from Vauxhall Road onto Oakland Avenue when it struck the pedestrian as she crossed in the crosswalk, police said.

The woman was taken to University Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
