Edison's Holly Place renamed for World War II vet Walter Michalski
A family in Edison received a special honor this Memorial Day as a street was renamed for one of their own.
Holly Place was transformed into Walter Michalski Way in a ceremony Monday.

The street sign sits just a few steps away from No. 27, where Michalski, a World War II veteran, raised his family.

"I think it's wonderful, really wonderful," says Delores Jaskot, Michalski's companion for the last 14 years of his life. "He deserved it, believe me."
Jaskot tied a yellow ribbon to the street pole as a part of the ceremony.
Michalski served in the Army, and survived D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge before returning home to live the American dream.
"He was a true family man," says grandson Mike Michalski. "When they talked about the greatest generation...he epitomized that."
Michalski went on to inspire his sons. His oldest, Bob Michalski, fought in Vietnam. Steve Michalski joined the Marine Corps.
Two grandsons also enlisted. They say their grandfather never stopped serving. He had an affinity for helping vets.
Bob Michalski says his father was involved in the community, volunteering with the VFW and the Elks. He was also known to visit vets in the hospital.
Michalski's service filled family with pride and now the legacy of this patriot will live on. He died two years ago at the age of 92.
Along with Michalski, Edison renamed another street in town in honor of World War II veteran Robert Grand-Jean.
