Even though I've done it many times, going to the top of a New York City skyscraper remains one of my favorite things to do. It's a thrilling perspective shift that can really lift your spirits. But one thing happens almost every time I go: I find myself alone on the New Jersey side of the building.
I try to find landmarks like the Union Township Water Tower, Sandy Hook lighthouse, the Palisades, the Watchung Mountains that most New York City tourists know nothing about. Things that mean a lot more to me than a look down at Central Park. And besides, we in New Jersey spend all our lives looking at the New York City skyline. Why spend all that money and do something you can do at home?
So, on a May day with the weather near perfection, I took the elevator to the 100th floor of Hudson Yards and went to Edge Observation Deck to try and convince some folks that maybe they should take another look at the great views of New Jersey for a change.
