A high school student in Elizabeth was sent to the hospital Monday morning after a vehicle crashed through an auditorium wall.
An erratic driver ran a red light near Bridge and Pearl streets before jumping a curb, crossing the sidewalk and slamming into Elizabeth High School's Dwyer Auditorium at around 8 a.m., according to city officials.
One student and one teacher were in the auditorium at the time. The student was taken to the hospital with a minor leg injury.
Superintendent Pat Politano said the auditorium sustained significant damage. He said district engineers and architects surveyed the building and confirmed it as structurally sound. Daily activities at the school have since continued as scheduled.
The driver was taken to University Hospital for minor injuries, according to police.
