The Hillsborough mother who is accused of killing her two children left a handwritten note to her husband detailing her plans to kill the boys before killing herself, court documents show.
Pryatharsini Natarajan, 35, told her husband that she killed their children when he arrived home from work on Tuesday, according to an affidavit for Natarajan. He found the boys, ages 5 and 7, shortly after.
After the father found the victims, Natarajan allegedly confessed that she had killed them hours earlier.
Natarajan refused to speak to detectives after their arrival and was taken into custody and later charged with murder.
The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office has not released the cause of death of the children, but court documents show that one of the two boys had a ligature mark on his neck consistent with having been strangled.
Natarajan is being held at the Somerset County Jail and awaiting a court appearance.
Hillsborough Township Schools Superintendent Mike Volpe released a statement Wednesday, calling the boys' deaths an "unfathomable loss."
"Last night, we lost two of our young students from Sunnymead Elementary School," Volpe wrote. "There are no words to adequately capture the weight of this tragedy, and our hearts are with the families and the entire Sunnymead community as they grieve."
Crisis response teams and additional counseling services are on-site for any students in need of support, Volpe said.
