DreamWorks Water Park will remain closed until at least Thursday after a decorative helicopter hanging from the ceiling fell down into the pool at American Dream mall in East Rutherford.
American Dream said in a new statement, "We voluntarily suspended operations immediately following Sunday’s event and remain in lockstep with the state as we continue to coordinate on the investigation to ensure all safety regulations and requirements are met before reopening the DreamWorks Water Park.”
The helicopter display fell on Sunday around 3 p.m. Four people were injured, three people received First Aid at the water park and one person was taken to the hospital for more care. All injuries are non-life threatening. American Dream said that's all the information it could release due to health privacy laws.
Video from the scene showed crowds of people soaking wet in their bathing suits, lifeguards rushing and running around, and showing people confused and not really understanding what just happened.
American Dream released a statement saying, “the safety of our guests is our highest priority. We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident to ensure the park meets all safety regulations as required."
American Dream says people who purchased tickets for DreamWorks Water Park in advance should have received an email. Other theme parks and attractions in the mall are open during normal hours.
