Dozens of supermarkets in New Jersey took part Sunday in the Action Against Hunger Food Drive.
The food drive is organized by the Foundation of Northern New Jersey and is considered the largest one-day food drive in the area.
Organizers say all of the collected items will help 65 local food pantries fill their shelves, so they can help thousands of New Jersey families put food on their table.
Among the participating stores was the ShopRite of Greater Morristown in Cedar Knowles. The food collected there, with help from the Morristown High School football team, will go to the
Interfaith Food Pantry of Morris County to help people in need.
"Many people don't realize even in affluent communities like ours there are people struggling with food insecurity," says Jennifer Rocco, with the Interfaith Food Pantry.
Shoppers got lists of the most-needed items on their way into the store, and then dropped off the items they picked up on their way out.
Cash donations are also accepted in-person and online.
