The Republican Hindu Coalition says Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will attend the group's event Saturday.
Founder Shalabh Kumar says Trump will attend the event at the Edison Expo Center to speak out against terrorism and to help raise money for terror victims in India.
"The name of the charity has not been decided yet," says Kumar. "It will be governed by Anupam Kher who is a most prominent actor as well as a Kashmiri Pandit himself... they will be determined by or advised by the Government of India."
Kumar says that part of the event is to muster Hindu votes for Trump.
"He's a businessman, and as a businessman he is looking for talent," Kumar says.
But not all Indian-Americans are in agreement with Kumar. Vin Gopal is chairman of the Monmouth County Democrats and says Kumar's efforts are misguided.
"Some Indian-Americans and other minority groups, they're frustrated with government," Gopal says. "They're frustrated things aren't going their way. They feel like this is the nuclear option, and we have to continue to guide them over the next three weeks that [Trump is] not the best option."
Some are questioning if the nominee will show up to the event. The event is not listed on Donald Trump's schedule on his official campaign website. He is scheduled to be in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Bangor, Maine in the early part of the day.
The Edison police chief says extra officers will be on hand for the event, but gave no indication on if Trump would be in attendance.
If Trump does attend, the event's organizers say he will arrive by 7 p.m. and leave by 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
