A humane officer rescued a dog that she found abandoned and tied to a bus stop pole in Hopatcong.

Gianna DiMatteo tells News 12 that the dog was terrified and had no collar or microchip.

She was not able to find the owner so she took the one-year-old dog to an animal shelter in Hopatcong.

DiMatteo says, regardless of the circumstance, abandoning an animal like that is never the answer.

"If you can't keep your dog, that's fine," DiMatteo says. "We all understand things change and you have to surrender and our door is always open. We always tell people if we can't help you, we'll find a shelter that can you because this isn't OK."

The shelter named the dog, Finn.

More than 30 people have reached out to adopt Finn.
