An Orange police detective accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor will be back in uniform Friday.
Charges against Detective Willie Coley have not been dropped. However, his defense attorney says recent statements made by the victim may change the case. The victim, a girl who?s mother Coley had a son with during a nine-year relationship, recently said she did not have sexual contact with Coley.
The defense attorney showed the statements to the prosecutor?s office more than a week ago. ?The state has more than enough to dismiss all charges as we sit here today,? said the defense attorney. A prosecutor?s office spokesman said, ?[The office] is still proceeding to present this case to a grand jury.?
The police director and city attorney say Coley?s unpaid suspension will end Friday. He will get a desk job and won?t be allowed to patrol the streets while the case is still pending.
