NBA player J.R. Smith was one of five people injured in a car accident in Millstone Township Saturday.
Police say Denver Nuggets player and another man were seriously injured when the SUV Smith was driving went through a stop sign and collided with a car. Both men were ejected from the car in the crash. The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. at Stagecoach Road.
Smith and another passenger were taken to a hospital in Freehold. A third man, who suffered serious head wounds, was brought to Jersey Shore Medical Center.
Smith is a native of Freehold and played at Lakewood High School and Newark?s Saint Benedict's Preparatory School. He went immediately to the NBA, where he played two seasons for the Hornets and then the Denver Nuggets.
Police say Smith was not wearing a seat belt.
J.R. Smith's father, Earl, reports his son is fine but was just shaken up.
