A Clifton dentist who put up a risqué Easter display on the front lawn of his practice is now using its notoriety to raise money to help rebuild the Notre Dame cathedral, which was damaged by fire.
Dentist Wayne Gangi says that a neighbor suggested that he do something positive with the display, which features mannequins dressed as Playboy bunnies and Chippendales dancers. That neighbor bought Gangi a sign and a bin for the donations.
The money has since been pouring in.
“I remember seeing [the display] before and it caught my eye. Then I saw the sign for Notre Dame so I stopped to make a small donation,” says Plainfield resident Kevin O’Keefe. “I’m sure the French people need help right now.”
Gangi’s display caused some controversy when neighbors complained that it was inappropriate.
One neighbor took it upon herself to tear the display down. She is now facing criminal mischief charges.
