Gov. Phil Murphy has signed a new law that doubles the amount of time a person can be involuntarily committed to hospitals and emergency rooms if they are experiencing a mental health crisis.
The commitment was increased from three days to six days. This is only if there are no beds available at a psychiatric or short-term care facility.
