The intersection where a deadly crash that claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl Monday will soon be getting new safety measures.
Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp tells News 12 New Jersey that the intersection of Arlington Avenue and West Ninth Street will soon become a four-way stop. Mayor Mapp says that he does not expect any issues with getting the City Council members to support the measure.
The mayor made the announcement at a vigil held Monday night for the young girl. She died after a minivan collided with another car at the intersection. Six other children and the two drivers were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The children were all on their way to school when the crash occurred.
Monday's crash was the latest at the intersection. Many residents say there have been several recently because drivers tend to ignore the existing stop sign.
Mayor Mapp says he will introduce the ordinance for the four-way stop at the next council meeting in November.
