A dead humpback whale has washed up on the beach at the Jersey Shore.
The founder of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine says that whale is over 30 feet long and weighed about 20 tons. The juvenile whale had no apparent injuries, according to Bob Schoelkopf.
Officials say that they aren't sure how long the whale had been dead. It washed up on the 20th Street Beach Friday.
A necropsy will be performed on the beach Saturday morning to learn how it died.
Officials brought in heavy machinery to draw the carcass farther up the beach and away from waves that could drag it out to sea.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
