Dead geese found in Essex, Monmouth counties as parks close and officials urge caution

The state DEP said that since March 4 there have been more than three thousand sick or dead birds reported in New Jersey.

Dead geese were found this week in Essex and Monmouth counties in New Jersey as officials urged visitors to be cautious.

The Verona Environmental Commission said geese were discovered Wednesday at Verona Park. The commission posted photos online to warn residents while visiting the park. It remains unclear how many geese were found.

In Monmouth County, Allentown's Department of Public Works removed more than 45 dead geese near a pond. Doctor Farmer's Park and Sensi Park are closed until further notice.
